Shepherd Sensei has a strong interest in Japanese martial arts which drove him to seek out one of the world’s best Budo masters.  Today he is the only direct student of Toshishiro Obata Kaiso in the UK and frequently trains with him in the honbu dojo.  As a direct student of Obata Kaiso, Shepherd Sensei had the distinct privilege of learning Aikibujutsu, Shinkendo and Bojutsu Tanrendo from the founder, an honour he is greatly appreciative of.

Shepherd Sensei has had the privilege of training under some of the world's best martial artists including Joe Thambu Shihan, Robert Mustard Shihan, Miyako Fujitani Shihan, Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, Mitsuteru Ueshiba 'Waka' Sensei, Minoru Kanetsuka Shihan and Brent Hire Kyoshi.

At present Shepherd Sensei runs clubs in Milton Keynes, Northampton and London.  He teaches Shinkendo, Aikido/Aikibujutsu, Jojutsu and Bojutsu.
